Been a rather decent long time since i did some real programming, and finally, the mood has reappeared.

I reckon I’ve written(or rather, typed) more code for NES and CVWO over the last 2 weeks than my last 2 semesters in NUS. Really. The last time I did real programming in NUS was in CS1101S, and that was really the last time anything real was done. Finally found the fun in programming again, after being traumatised and taught to hate programming in that disaster of a module known as CS1102s. What I really need is a challenge. Last week my work felt sian. Really. It was comparable to data entry. But now, I’m having fun changing the code in my own little way =P.

Back to topic, the fact that I’ve wrote more code over the past 2 weeks than my 2 semesters in NUS(as in school based work) clearly says something. There is something fundamentally wrong with CS education, when a CS major writes less than 2000 lines of code in 2 semesters. And guess what. They just decided to extend the introductory programming module to last 3 semesters. What next? Are students going to be given 8 semesters to learn introductory programming in future?

I’m not complaining because I screwed some modules up. I’m complaining in spite of doing quite well in all my CS modules, with a perfectly healthy CAP of 3.99. I’m not a sour grape. And I believe what the CS syllabus officially lacks is challenge. And with a new syllabus that seems to reward the complains of the weaker students, it doesn’t look good for the industry in Singapore. Or perhaps it really is good. With it so damn hard to find talent, the MNC’s will probably only set up sales shops here. Which means less competition for the top tech talents.

When the top lecturers that a large majority of the students like simply spoonfeeds, and get a teaching awards in the process, one wonders, what is the purpose of university education. To continue absorbing information like a sponge without the means to process this information? Or is it to challenge us, so that we can improve ourselves intellectually?

Seems like the momentum is back. Guess it’s time for me to soar again, and get back to where I ought to be.

yah lah NUS SoC is very low-density in geeks distribution lah… That explains why 01s people says someone sucks while 01 gen pop says he rocks… (someone we all know :p)

p.s. I’d better move this from Facebook XD not to mess up with the ‘someone’ :p

aiya, the someone also dunno we are talking about him, altho i’m quite sure he knows I don’t think too highly about him.
